D1.1 - Systematic Review Report. Population behaviour during epidemics
To limit the spread of disease, in case of pandemics or serious infectious outbreaks, WHO recommends the use of non‐pharmaceutical interventions (like hand and respiratory hygiene), and vaccination, when available.
Adoptions of these measures by general population can lower the risk of infection, transmission, and disease severity, but it depends on their understanding of them and on several other factors influencing people’s behaviour.
In this report, TELL ME experts from National Health Institute (ISS) mined scientific literature from main international scientific bibliographic database, in order to answer these two questions:
- Which factors encourage people to protect themselves by vaccination and non‐pharmaceutical interventions during infectious outbreaks?
- What can we learn from communication during 2009 A-H1N1 pandemic?
